Born and raised in Southwest Florida, I've always had a peaked interest for the outdoors - mainly the beach since I lived about 15 minutes from the water. I have been invested in how simply and efficiently cameras can capture any moment, slow or quick.
I spend most of my time now a little up north from The Sunshine State, here in North Carolina - rocking with both a mountain and beach combo here. Besides the coast you’ll probably find me up a hill, that reveals an overlook of trees, or finding a waterfall right off of a hiking trail. I find myself also chasing after one thing that draws the attention of most eyes. The sun either rising or setting. It’s all about the scattering color tones, which give the rewarding result.
Any and everything. There is a comforting art to what the human eye both retains and picks up - pleasant or unpleasant. Either way, you are always left with a moment frozen in time when capturing an image, which is the whole point I think. What your own very eyes target is what makes photographing the most interesting, not just how efficient the camera is itself.
My work display shows about two years of photographing now, featuring frames in both film and digital. With film specifically, I’m reminded of early childhood as I would go through photo boxes filled with both expired rolls and rolled up reel stock, followed by numerous developed prints. There is immense nostalgia in shooting a roll of film in itself, and the best part is opening the gift. The revealing gift of your exposed negatives in either 35mm or 120mm.
As I continue to go anywhere with a camera, I’m often reminded of what the Lord has made for us to enjoy. With awe and admiration, I’m astonished by the craftmanship and handiwork of His hands. Everything made was in accordance to his will, fully displaying his sovereignty.
